The Adventure

The adventurers are Short Folk (Dwarves, Halflings, Gnomes) in a great magical desert called the Shifting Sea. Legend says that the Tall Folks (humans and elves) created the desert to destroy the Short Folk. Koresus the Librarian invites the characters on the quest to destroy the magic desert, with a device called the Force of Nature, which is recognized as the Nullifier from the 2nd Reunion - an anti magic hockey puck. The land at the center of the desert is known as the Island, and there are only two kinds of weather - light rain and heavy rain. Elves hate the rain, humans tolerate it, and the Troglodytes love it. As the plot unwinds, the players find that a race of insectoid creatures known as the Yiilk are the true enemies, and that the human and elf wizards are difficult-to-trust allies of sorts. The Yiilk cannot survive the heat of the desert, which was magically created in desperation to keep them at bay. The Yiilk Grandwizard is very powerful, has created a magic gate and is attempting to find the Force of Nature to destroy the Shifter and the desert. The Sapphire Council of the Wizards is looking for the Force too, but to hide it so the Yiilk can't get it. The Yiilk wizard has learned how to track the use of Illusionist magic, and sends minions towards the heroes when strong Illusion magic is used.

The two teams had very different adventures. The Purple Team dealt with the Desert Dwarves and the Grey-Speckled-Sand-Egg-Eating-Beasts, then joined in a Foilage Raid and soon met Elves. They submitted to the Elven Trial, and pleaded guilty of ignorance, which the Elves accepted. They debated about rescuing Stuckel from the tunnels underneath the city, and ended up taking the road to the east, heading for human lands. They found the Museum tower of the wizards, learned some history, and acquired an ancient battleaxe and the Singularity - a box for the Force. They then went to the "Library Tower", which was converted into a barracks full of combative Yiilk. After the battle, the heroes took the Shifter Tower and got the Shifter itself, a Rubick's cube-like device. They were careful about bringing the Force near the Shifter, instead trying to solve the puzzling device, making all manners of weather changes occur. Then, they accidentally brought the two devices together, destroying the Shifter. They met the Wizards who told them the whole story and sent them to destroy the Yiilk Gate. The disheartened Purple heroes treked north to find the Rockaxe Dwarves, had a great feast, and ended the quest soon after.

The winning Green team used Illusion magic from the very start, scaring the Desert Dwarves with their invisibility, but intriguing the Slick Willie the Halfling. They met the Elves, but declined the trial, instead striking into human lands where they met Farmer Snerb and learned about the town of Goodswamp. All the way they were plagued by ensorcelled giant eagles and small Yiilk patrols. In Goodswamp, they went to Kholepps and to the Western Library of Mathematics, then deciding to head to the human capital of Teresi. On the way, they met an Opal wizard who found they had the Force of Nature. Understandably untrusting from the start, they made demands that the wizard would not submit to, immediately teleporting away. Just before reaching Teresi, a party of Opal wizards and human soldiers intercepted them and finally convinced the heroes to talk to the Sapphire Council. Once there, the party obstinately refused to enter the Research Tower, even after a positive Augury spell. They learned the story and headed north to the Rockaxe Dwarves, the great feast, and the Yiilk gate. Scaling a great cliff, the thieves in the party quickly destroyed the magic mirror and scampered down the mountain amidst Yiilk arrows and avalanches.
