Football in Hopewell Valley

Here's the background:

Hopewell High School dropped its football program in 1932. In 1999, a Pop Warner "little league"-type football program started in Hopewell Valley, and league members soon started petitioning the School Board to start up a football program at the High School.

In April 2001 there was a special question on the School Board election ballot, requesting funding to start a football program. Much to everybody's surprise, it was defeated 2-to-1. As far as I have been able to discover, this is the only time Americans have *ever* voted against football in a public election.

Nonetheless, in the spring of 2002 the School Board started to work with H.I.K.E., a local organization, to start a football program using private funds for 2 years, then phasing in public funding over another 2 years.

After a tumultuous public meeting in May 2002 Honor Our Vote was formed. Meanwhile, I was organizing my thoughts about the School Board's actions into a report, Objections to Football.
